Volunteers Comb Streets, Creeks for Trash

About 30 volunteers worked with Keep the Rez Beautiful to cleanup a dumpster load of trash from the streets and creeks of Rankin County. This was KRB’s first-ever kayak cleanup, and three volunteers brought kayaks to use to retrieve trash. The rest of the volunteers picked up trash on foot.

The event was connected with America Recycles Day, which is held nationwide in November. Citizens were encouraged to bring their recyclables to the drop-off site for paper, plastic and aluminum next door to the Reservoir Fire Station.

Several key groups helped make this cleanup possible, including Adopt-A-Stream Mississippi, Mississippi Wildlife Federation, Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, Reservoir Patrol, Duncan Marine and Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.

Also, a big thanks to Debra Veeder who organized this cleanup. Deb has been an asset to KRB’s cleanup efforts. This is the third cleanup that KRB has held this year!

Below are a few photos from the event. Be sure to check out our Shutterfly site for more photos from Saturday!

Duncan Marine was one of the partners who helped make this cleanup possible. Thank you!
