Ridgeland High Students Reeling in Recyclables

Ridgeland High School students are working with Keep Mississippi Beautiful and Keep the Rez Beautiful to compete in this year’s national Recycle-Bowl Competition. Keep America Beautiful, KRB’s parent organization, sponsors this event in which schools compete to gather the most recyclables. The winning school in Mississippi wins $1,000, and Ridgeland High School is vying for the top spot.

The school’s Ambassador Club is heading up the project. So far, the school has collected about 3,500 pounds of recyclables, and it’s only been about two weeks. The competition began Oct. 17 and lasts through Nov. 12. Please help Ridgeland High School win in Mississippi by bringing your recyclables to the Waste Management recycle bin located behind the school.

Also, a big thanks to Terry Smith with Waste Management, Mayor Gene McGee with the City of Ridgeland and Sarah Kountouris with Keep Mississippi Beautiful for their support in this project.

Ridgeland High students fill the school's recycle bin with cardboard.

Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee, Keep the Rez Beautiful Executive Director Jeannine May and Keep Mississippi Beautiful Executive Director Sarah Kountouris meet with students and encourage them to continue their hard work in gathering recyclable items.
