Donetta McCullum-Weathershpoon

Dr. Donetta McCullum-Weatherspoon serves on KRB’s board of directors. She is a Laurel native and has worked for the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality’s Office of Pollution Control since 2008.  She currently serves as the Basin Coordinator for the Pearl River, Big Black and South Independent River Basins.  From 2008-2009 she served as the Basin Coordinator for the Pascagoula, Coastal Streams and Lower Pearl River Basins.  Her main goal is to work closely with other resource agencies, stakeholders and municipalities to protect and improve waterbodies in her designated areas of the state.

While at MDEQ, Dr. Weatherspoon is also active in education and outreach and has traveled throughout the state to educate people about pollution issues and water quality. Dr. Weatherspoon is the Project Manager for a comprehensive project known as “Rezonate,” which is designed to protect and improve the water quality of the entire Ross Barnett Reservoir. The Ross Barnett Reservoir is of great importance because it is the drinking water source for Jackson, it’s a highly used recreational source and it supplies Nissan with water to run its day to day operations.  While working on this project Dr. Weatherspoon has grown fond of the area and enjoys spending time on the Reservior with her family and friends.

Dr. Weatherspoon earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi College in 1994, and her Masters Degree from Jackson State University in 1998.  Recently she was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy in Environmental Science in 2009 also from Jackson State University.

Dr. Weatherspoon is married to Mr. Anthony Weatherspoon and they have 4 boys, DeSean, Joshua, Jordan and Jaxson.  They currently reside in Madison.
